ARI û grîp: meriv çawa zû xelas dibe

With the onset of cold weather, the chances of catching acute respiratory infections or flu increase. The host of the program “On the Most Important Things” (“Russia 1”), author of the book “Guidelines for the Use of Medicine” Alexander Myasnikov tells how to protect yourself from these infections and recover faster if you do get sick.

ARI and flu are the most common colds in the autumn-winter period. I recommend everyone get the flu vaccine every year. Although vaccination will not protect you 100%, the disease will be much easier, without complications. Taking antiviral drugs for prophylactic purposes also does not guarantee that you will not get sick with acute respiratory infections. My advice is simple: during an epidemic, wash your hands more often and try to avoid crowded places. Well, if the virus has already overtaken, you do not need to immediately stuff the body with pills. The tactics of behavior and treatment for acute respiratory infections and influenza are, in principle, the same.

1. The main rule is to stay at home.

Try to stay in bed for 3-5 days. It is dangerous to carry the virus on the legs, this leads to complications in the form of bronchitis, otitis media, tonsillitis, pneumonia. And think of others, you are a threat to healthy people. You shouldn’t go to the clinic either. If you are unsure of what to do, call them (many have counseling centers) or call your doctor at home. And if you feel really bad, immediately call an ambulance (103).

2. Don’t take antibiotics.

With a viral infection, they do not help. And antiviral drugs are mostly dummies, their effectiveness has not been proven, but no pronounced side effects have been identified. By and large, you only need pills that relieve the unpleasant symptoms of acute respiratory infections and flu (headache, high fever, cough, runny nose, nausea).

3. Do not bring down the temperature if it is below 38 degrees.

By raising it, the body fights the virus, and by lowering it, you will wake it up again and again. The virus stops multiplying at an ambient temperature of 38 ° C. Take antipyretic pills as needed because they all have side effects. Therefore, even if a child has a temperature of 39 ° C, but he is active, drinks and eats with appetite, it is not necessary to lower it.

4. Drink as much as possible.

There are no restrictions! If you don’t even want to, then through force – every hour. And what exactly is at your discretion – tea with raspberries, chamomile, lemon, honey, berry juice or ordinary still water. Replenish fluid loss purposefully because dehydration is very dangerous. If you drink enough, you should go to the toilet every 3-5 hours.

5. Eat as much as the body requires, and what you want.

But, of course, broths, cereals, boiled and stewed foods are easier and faster to digest in principle, and especially when the body is weakened by the disease. If you don’t have an appetite, you don’t need to force food into yourself.

6. Ventilate the room more often, but avoid drafts.

And it is not necessary to leave the “isolator” during airing. When opening the window, just close the door. The patient should not lie in a tightly closed room, stuffy, sweating. Cool, fresh air helps speed up the healing process.

7. Take a shower every day.

During illness, a person needs water procedures even more than when he is healthy. After all, the body secretes infection through the pores and sweat becomes a breeding ground for the spread of bad bacteria. Even if you have a high temperature, you can wash yourself, just not with too hot water, no higher than 35-37 degrees.
