An unusual case occurred with an 18-year-old resident of India. She had a man’s hands transplanted, but over time they brightened and transformed.

In 2016, Shreya Siddanagauder had an accident, as a result of which both arms were amputated to the elbows. A year later, she had the opportunity to regain her lost limbs. But the donor’s hands, which could have been transplanted to Shrei, turned out to be male. The girl’s family did not refuse such a chance.

After a successful transplant, the student underwent physical therapy for a year. As a result, her newfound hands began to obey her. Moreover, the rough palms have changed in appearance. They have become lighter, and their hair has noticeably decreased. According to AFP, this may be due to a lack of testosterone.

“Nobody even suspects that these hands belonged to a man. Now Shreya can wear jewelry and paint her nails, ”said Suma, the girl’s proud mother.

Subramania Iyer, one of the transplant surgeons, believes hormones that stimulate the production of melatonin may be the cause of these dramatic changes. Like, because of this, the skin on the hands becomes lighter.

Shreya herself is delighted with what is happening to her. She recently passed a written exam on her own and confidently scribbled her answer on paper. The doctors are happy that the patient is doing well. The surgeon said that Shreya sent him a birthday card, which she herself signed. “I couldn’t have dreamed of a better gift,” added Subramania Iyer.
