This disorder is not scientifically considered to be a disease. In our society, healthy eating is viewed positively, especially because of the explosion in the number of cases of obesity. However, in orthorexia, healthy eating is taken to the extreme and turns into an obsession. Orthorexia causes real suffering and impacts the daily lives of those affected.
